Wolf in King’s Clothing: Hadrian

Wolf in King’s Clothing: Hadrian

After meeting Kent last week, today I want to introduce you to Hadrian.

Hadrian is an alpha wolf from London, who finds himself suddenly valuable after the RMS Titanic sinks in April 1912, taking many alphas and their seconds along with it. He is distinctly less than impressed when Kent turns up to abduct him, but quickly finds their fortunes are tied together. As they travel south, Hadrian is drawn to Kent and the mystery he presents, but they are from different worlds…

Hadrian is played by Damien Lewis, but more period drama and less Homeland. Hadrian is older than Kent, but in many ways has seen less. Here are three significant images from Hadrian’s story: a dissembled Luger pistol, which Hadrian threatens Kent with the first time they meet; the RMS Titanic, which changed Hadrian’s life; and, well. You’ll have to read the story to understand the significance of that last one!

York, England, 1912

Kent was a pack outcast. His shifter instincts cruelly muted, he was collared and kept as a stray. Until he was offered his freedom—for something in return. He must rescue Hadrian, an alpha held hostage in the wolf highlands. It’s a pleasure for Kent to follow the captive’s scent, one so wild and virile it gives him a rush. Though he despises being treated like a mutt called to heel, he’ll gladly fall to his knees for an alpha like Hadrian.

Hadrian has never met anyone like this damaged wolf warrior. His savior who licks the blood from his wounds and who arouses in him feelings he doesn’t understand or want to control. But Hadrian suspects that more than desire binds them. It’s betrayal. Pawns in an elaborate and feral deceit, they’re now caught in the deepening maze of a vengeful shifter world, where navigating the mysteries of the heart could prove just as unpredictable and dangerous as the enemies they face.

Wolf in King’s Clothing: Kent

Wolf in King’s Clothing: Kent

With WOLF IN KING’S CLOTHING coming up for release on May 15, 2017 with Carina Press, I wanted to introduce you to the MC: Kent.

Confession: I love all my characters, but Kent is way up there in my favourites. He’s an angry mess with a tragic backstory and, for most of WIKC, a tragic frontstory. In a world of shifters and humans, Kent can’t find a place to call his own. He’s an outsider even in a world of outsiders, trying to make a place for himself as he moves with single-minded determination toward one goal: freedom. But it isn’t until meeting Hadrian that Kent dares to dream his future might contain more than claws and blood…

So here’s Kent as played by Miles McMillan, which is 50% the hair and 50% the gazing-into-the-distance. Kent doesn’t speak a lot, but there’s a lot going on in his head. What’s he thinking about? His collar. Escape. And – increasingly – Hadrian. But it’s going to be a hard fight if they want to be together!

Come back next week to meet Hadrian, WIKC’s alpha!

Cover of Wolf in King's Clothing.I am (VERY) pleased to announce my novella Wolf in King’s Clothing will be released by Carina Press as part of the Primal Need anthology in May 2017 – both the novella and anthology are available for preorder now, links here. I’ve really enjoyed working with Carina, and am looking forward to reading the anthology – I love shifters! (What, like that’s a surprise. Are you new.)

Writing WIKC was an absolute blast. The first draft felt like the most enormously self-indulgent exercise, and whittling it into shape has been a pleasure. Many thanks to my editor, Anne Scott, who suffered through much – including my continuing inability to differentiate times of day. Ahahahah. /cries a bit/

WIKC introduces Kent, a berserker stray fighting to free himself of his binding collar, and Hadrian, a firestarter alpha pursued for his status and connections. Their first meeting is an inadvertent kidnapping, and things go sideways from there.

What’s WIKC about? It’s clawing back identity from a world calling you a name not your own. It’s magic you don’t understand. It’s jumping off trains and through windows and into love, even when the timing couldn’t be worse. It’s York, 1912, and it rains a lot. Also, there’s werewolves.

I hope you like it.
